Paris: The Anonymous hacking network declared war on the Islamic State in a Youtube video Monday, sparking a combative response from the jihadist group's affiliates, a security expert said.

The "hacktivist" collective vowed vengeance for attacks in Paris on Friday, claimed by IS, that left 129 dead and hundreds injured, some of them critically.

"Anonymous everywhere in the world is going to hunt you down," a hooded figure in black, wearing the group's signature Guy Fawkes mask said in French.

It was not possible to verify its authenticity, but the statement and video had the hallmarks of the network, known for mounting cyberattacks against government and corporate websites.

"Our country, France, was hit in Paris on November 13 around 2200 (2100 GMT) by multiple terrorist attacks claimed by you, the Islamic State," the figure said in a gravelly, computer-altered voice.

"We are going to launch the biggest operation every mounted against you -- get ready for a multitude of cyberattacks. War has been declared."

Counterproductive

The video, posted the day after the attacks, had more than 1.3 million views by Monday afternoon.

In an apparent riposte, a message posted on the Twitter address of the messaging service Telegram calls on Islamic State affiliates to secure their Internet communications.

"The #Anonymous hackers threatened... that they will carry out a major hack operation on the Islamic state (idiots)," the message said.

"So U should follow the instructions below to avoid being hacked," it continued, advising followers to avoid opening unknown links and to frequently change computers and phones.

Charlie Winter, a researcher in transnational jihadism at UK-based think tank Quilliam, affirmed the message's authenticity in a tweet.

"@GroupAnon, IS didn't like your declaration of war," he wrote, referring to one of Anonymous' Twitter addresses.

"Here's what they're saying on @telegram. Use it against them."

French cybersecurity expert Olivier Laurelli warned the Anonymous action against the jihadist organisation could interfere with police efforts to identify and track its members.

"It's counterproductive," he told AFP. Actions that force Islamic State operatives "to close accounts just renders police investigators blind and dead for certain things."

It is helpful, for example, to know that certain accounts are based in France, Syria or Iraq, he said.

Being able to identify connections and communications between individuals is also critical. But if Anonymous forces accounts to shut down, investigators are left with dead ends.

Thomas designed and built a twin-seater ultralight aircraft on his own from used parts and recycled material which got him into the record books and will see him featured on Discovery Channelin a programme called HRX Superheroes beginning on Monday. The programme is anchored by Hrithik Roshan and showcases nine people who overcame physical disability to achieve their dreams.His ultralight aircraft, called Saji X Air-S, has already done several successful flightsat a private flight training academy owned by Thiruvananthapuram-based SKJ Nair, a (Rtd) Wing Commander. Thomas's passionfor planes was kindled when as a 15 year-old he saw a small aircraft spraying pesticides on nearby rubber plantations.He mustered the courage to go and 'talk' tothe pilots, one of whom gave the mute kid their Mumbai address. A few months later, Thomas ran away from home to Mumbai. Impressed by his enthusiasm, the pilots gave him some manuals on aviation to read up and put him on odd jobs.Over the years, Thomas has had to undergo severe hardships to build the aircraft, even selling all five cents of land he owned. "First he could only construct the frame of an aircraft and the second one could not fly as an engine from a motor bike was used in it," his wife Mariya told TOI.After Thomas sold the second aircraft's model to an engineering college, he boughtan aircraft engine with that money and completed the work on Saji X Air-S last year. Thomas, whose name is mentioned in India Book of Records as the first differently abled person to build an aircraft,often worked as a rubber tapper, an electrician and band photographer to earn a living."It was when we lost all hope that support came from Nair who made arrangements for Thomas to test his aircraft and also helped him in flying the aircraft at Manimuthar in Tamil Nadu," Mariya said.Thomas is now seeking a licence from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation and plans to build a twin-engine aircraft. Case of Cyberstalking :-

Seema Khanna (name changed),
 an employee with an
embassy in New Delhi, know that web surfing would lead to an invasion of her privacy.
In an apparent case of cyber stalking, Khanna (32) received a series of messages on facebook from a man asking her to either pose in the
nude for him or pay Rs 1 lakh to him. In her complaint to Delhi Police, the woman said she started receiving these messages in the third week of November.The accused threatened Khanna that he would put her morphed
pictures on display at sex websites , along with her telephone number and address. He also allegedly threatened to put up these pictures in her neighbourhood in southwest Delhi."Initially, she ignored the messages , but soon she started receiving
letters through post, repeating the same threat. She was forced to report the matter to the police," said an officer with cyber crime cell.
That, however, was not the end of her ordeal. The accused
messaged the woman her photographs .The police said the accused had hacked her username and password which enabled him to access the pictures.
A preliminary inquiry into the complaint has revealed that the
messages were sent to the victim from a cyber cafe in south Delhi.
"We hope to trace the accused soon," said deputy
commissioner of police (crime) Dependra Pathak.
The police feel the accused might be known to the victim as he seemed to know a lot about her.

The Information Technology Act 2000 was drafted in order to regularise the contents or documents that are broadcasted via any communication medium like computer, internet, press etc. It has 92 sections. In particular, Section 66A was drafted to tackle the informationthat was being circulated via any communication devices like mobile phones and computers.The Act says, “any person who sends, by means of a computer resource or a communication device,a)  any information that is grossly offensive or has menacing character,b)  any information which he knows to be false, but for the purpose of causing annoyance, inconvenience,  danger, obstruction, insult, injury, criminal intimidation, enmity, hatred, or ill will, persistently by making use of such computer resource or a communication device,c)  any electronic mail or electronic mail messagefor the purpose of causing annoyance or inconvenience or to deceive or to mislead the addressee or recipient about the origin of such messages,shall be punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend to three years and with fine."Experts of the of the IT Act have heavily criticisedthe section for having adopted from the UK Communication Act 2003 and the Communications Act 1988. Both the acts are applicable only when the communication is directed to a specific person.Snehashish Ghosh, Policy Associate at Centre forInternet and Society, says inThe Business Line: “Section 1 of the Malicious Prosecution Act begins stating that, “any person who sends to another person.” Therefore it is clear that the provision does not include any post or electronic communication which is broadcasted to the world and deals with only one-to-one communication.
